    Law Of Reciprocation

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."  Luke 6:37-38 1.   Giving Makes Me More Like God         His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.    2 Peter 1:3-4       Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm 103:2-5           "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16  2.   Giving Draws Me Closer To God         “Where your treasure is, there your heart is also.”  Matthew 6:21   "You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. 23 Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored…” Deuteronomy 14:22-23 3.   Giving Is The Antidote To Materialism        “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to be generous and willing to share.  In this way...they may take hold of the life that is truly Life!”  1 Timothy 6:17-19 4.   Giving Strengthens My Faith            “Bring your whole tithe to My storehouse. Test me in this” says the Lord, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you won’t have room enough for it!”  Malachi 3:10      5.  Giving Is An Investment For Eternity         “...Give happily to those in need, and always be ready to share whatever God has given you.  By doing this, you will be storing up real treasure for yourselves in heaven - it is the only safe investment for eternity!”  1 Timothy 6:18-19 (LB)           "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Matthew 6:19-21   6Giving Opens the Door of God’s Blessing in My Life           “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”  Proverbs 11:25           “Good will come to him who is generous...”  Psalm 112:5           'It is more blessed to give than to receive.’  Acts 20:35           I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:18-19

So What Is The Right Attitude?

    1.  Give Willingly -2 Corinthians 9:12   1 Corinthians 9:7a   2.  Give Thankfully - Psalm 116:12 3.  Give Joyfully - 2 Corinthians 9:7   4.  Give Regularly  - 1 Corinthians 16:2 (LB)   5.  Give Expectantly - 2 Corinthians 9:6    Matthew 6:21

    Keys to Successful Faith

    November 23-24, 2013

    1 Cor 16:13-14

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14  Be on your guard   Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8   For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.        Ephesians 6:12   How do we maintain an attitude of awareness? Prayer   …pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.   Ephesians 6:18     Stand firm in the faith…   Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  1 Peter 5:8-9   So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. 2 Thessalonians 2:15   Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58   Standing firm includes finishing what you started  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”  2 Timothy 4:7   “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”  John 17:4   NKJV   Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…   Ephesians 6:13  Be men of courage   "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.”  Ezekiel 22:30    Be strong   Strength can be increased over time through resistance training   Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith… 1 Peter 5:8-9   Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you… James 4:7-8   Strength can be increased when we discover its true source   It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.    Psalm 18:32     You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. Psalm 18:39     The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7    The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Psalm 28:8     Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Psalm 105:4    Do everything in love    I love you, O Lord, my strength. Psalm 18:1

    Seeking God’s Presence

    November 16-17, 2013

    2 Chronicles 15

Asa Hears A Prophetic Word From God

The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded. 2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you…        7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." 2 Chronicles 15:1-2, 7

Creating An Environment For God’s Presence

In Our Lives And In Our Church

When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord's temple. 2 Chronicles 15:8

     1.     He Took Courage

     2.     He Identified And Removed The Idols

Therefore speak to them and tell them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face and then goes to a prophet, I the LORD will answer him myself in keeping with his great idolatry. I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols. "Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices! Ezekiel 14:4-6   Idol: A representation or symbol of an object of worship.
    • An object of passionate devotion

     3.     Asa Responded By Repairing The Altar Of The Lord. Vs. 8

He repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord's temple.2 Chronicles 15:8

     4.     Asa Offered Sacrifices To The Lord

At that time they sacrificed to the Lord seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought back. 2 Chronicles 15:11

     5.     Finally, Asa Responded By Making A Covenant To Seek The Lord

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. 2 Chronicles 15:12   Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." Jeremiah 29:12-14

    How Are You Living?

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands; you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:9-14 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16 “…made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Philippians 2

Faith Without Works Is Dead But So Is Our DevotionTo God If We Do Not Act On It

He Laid Down His Life As A Living Sacrifice To Teach Us How To Live And Then Laid Down His Life On The Cross So That We Had A Chance To Do The Same

    Three Building Blocks For Life

    #1 Love God

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. Matthew 22:37
    • Ask God to create in you a clean heart - Psalms 51:10
    • Be devoted to prayer and the reading of the Word -         Acts 2:42, 1Thessalonians 5:17
    • Seek the empowerment of the Holy Spirit - Acts 1:8

    #2 Love People

“Love each other as I have loved you” John 15:12 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails”.         1 Corinthians 13:4-8

    #3 Do not Conform

World Says                                                  God Says Trust no one                                                     Trust in the Lord Never be satisfied                              Be content with what you have You make your own truth                                 I AM the Truth Pay back your enemy                    Bless those who curse you pray for    those that mistreat you There are many ways to heaven                         I Am the Way   And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13

    The Importance of Connecting

    November 2-3, 2013

    Pastor Rulon Combs

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”  Matthew 7:7-8   Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Psalm 1:1-3

Small Groups Put A Substantial Dent In The Holy Man Myth

The Pastor has a unique role to play in the body of Christ   To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers — not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.                1 Peter 5:1-3   It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13   The small group can provide opportunities for anyone who wants to use their gifts to serve others
    • prayer, visitation, encouraging, meeting other’s needs, hospitality, follow up
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:4-8

The Small Groups Put A Substantial Dent In The Holy Place Myth

There is a real danger of Christians today subconsciously believing that all things spiritual take place at church   Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus.  They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. Greet also the church that meets at their house. Romans 16:3-5   The church is the body of Christ: He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.  Colossians 1:17-18   Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16   It is critical that believers understand that the Presence of God, the purposes of God, and the power of God are not limited to this building!   As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. Mark 1:29-31

The Small Group Is The Best Environment For Honesty And Transparency

We are admonished in scripture to be honest with each other   These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other…          Zechariah 8:16    We are also admonished to confess our sins to each other   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16

    Acts 2:42-47

"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."  Matthew 13:18-23     That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.           Romans 10:9-10   They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  Acts 2:42-47   They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching or doctrine

     1.      The small group is the best environment to discuss the Word

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17   They devoted themselves to fellowship…

    2.      The small group is the best environment to develop significant relationships

The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone…” Genesis 2:18   Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…  Hebrews 10:25   A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment. Proverbs 18:1   As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17   They broke bread together

    3.      The small group is the best environment to share your testimony with other believers

      They devoted themselves to prayer

    4.      The small group is the best place to pray for each other’s needs

"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.” Matthew 18:19     They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. Acts 1:14     When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. Acts 4:24   The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him. Psalm 37:39-40   Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. Acts 2:43   All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need Acts 2:44

     5.      The small group is the best environment to develop a true sense of community

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47

    2 Samuel 9

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19   Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the LORD, saying, `The LORD is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.'" Then David left, and Jonathan went back to the town. 1 Samuel 20:42  Godly Compassion Compels Us To Reach Out To Others   The king asked, "Is there no one still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show God's kindness?" 2 Sam 9:3    The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9   'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame… Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.” Luke 14    “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”   John 3:16 Our Sin Nature Causes Us To Focus On A Person’s Failures   Ziba answered the king, "There is still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in both feet." 2 Samuel 9:3   Broken People Often Come From Barren Places   "Where is he?" the king asked.   Ziba answered, "He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar."            2 Samuel 9:4   Real Compassion Takes Action And Is Marked By Generosity   So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.   When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor.   David said, "Mephibosheth!"   "Your servant," he replied.   "Don't be afraid," David said to him, "for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table."  2 Samuel 9:5-7   What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:14-17   It Can Be Difficult For Hurting People To Understand Genuine Love   Mephibosheth bowed down and said, "What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?" 2 Samuel 9:8   We Must Continue To Reach Out In Love And Generosity   Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, "I have given your master's grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and your servants are to farm the land for him and bring in the crops, so that your master's grandson may be provided for. And Mephibosheth, grandson of your master, will always eat at my table." 2 Samuel 9:9-10      "For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with deep compassion I will bring you back.  In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you," says the LORD your Redeemer. Isaiah 54:7-8    Therefore this is what the LORD says: "If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me…” Jeremiah 15:19    God’s Blessing Always Comes With Restoration

    Luke 7:36-50

Jesus Is A Friend Of Sinners   The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." '  Luke 7:34   On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."  Mark 2:17   “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." Luke 19:10   Jesus Meets People Where They Live     Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. Luke 7:36   A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. Isaiah 42:3   Jesus Always Makes Time For Desperate People   When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume…  Luke 7:37   Jesus Is More Interested In Your Future Than He Is In Your Past   There Is A Correlation Between How Much We Love And How We Worship   …as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. Luke 7:38   David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might, 15 while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.    When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, disrobing in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!"   David said to Michal, "It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord's people Israel — I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor."  2 Samuel 6:14,15, 20-22   Pharisees Have A Gift For Seeing The Sin In Others   When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is — that she is a sinner." Luke 7:39   "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.”  Luke 6:41-42   Jesus Is Moved By Extravagant Worship   Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Luke 7:44-47   He Who Is Forgiven Much, Loves Much   “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven — for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little." Luke 7:47   Real Faith Always Expresses Itself Through Love   Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."  Luke 7:50   For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6   Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.  Revelation 2:4-5
