    Doing My Part

    May 17-18, 2014

    Humble Yourself

Then he continued, "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.”   Daniel 10:12     James 4:10           1 Peter 5:5-6

The Holy Spirit Paints Our Promotions On The Canvas Of Humility

There Are Many Benefits Associated With Living A Life Of Humility

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. Psalm 25:9     Psalm 147:6         Psalm 149:4         Proverbs 3:34      Proverbs 11:2     Proverbs 22:4     Philippians 2:3

Cultivating A Life Of Humility Also Makes Us Look More Like Jesus

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

    How do we humble ourselves?

Seek it. - Zephaniah 2:3 Take all other thoughts captive… Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you into the truth  Romans 12:3                2 Samuel 18:18   Look for the good in others - Romans 12:10 Demote yourself back to authenticity: get real, be transparent

    Discipline Yourself

1 Timothy 4:7-8                   Hebrews 12:11                     2 Peter 1:5-7   How do we discipline ourselves? Turn priorities into goals Write them down Read them regularly   But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands. Isaiah 32:8

    Encourage Yourself

1 Sam 30:1-6   Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6   What does that look like? Take all destructive thoughts captive…   Lie: “I can’t do this…it is just too hard…I don’t have the gifts or the training”   It is written: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.        Philippians 4:13   NKJV   Lie: “I just do not have the stuff that it takes to live for God”   It is written: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3     Lie: “I think God has abandoned me…I just cannot feel His Presence”   It is written: God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."  Hebrews 13:5     Lie: “I can’t afford that kind of tuition…I can’t afford to tithe…looks like we won’t be eating this summer”’   It is written: And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19     Lie: “Nobody knows what I am going through…nobody cares…”   It is written: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.      1 Peter 5:6-7     Lie: “This situation looks impossible from every direction…”   It is written: Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."  Matthew 19:26

The Four Principles Of A Godly Mother

Every Godly Mother Wants To PROTECT Her Children

    1. She protected him physically
    1. She protected him spiritually

Every Godly Mother Should PRESENT Her Children To The Lord

      Hannah – Samuel’s Mama - 1 Sam 1
    1. Women of faith exhibit real problems
    1. Women of faith express vibrant prayers
    1. Women of faith experience God’s provision
    1. Women of faith excel at keeping their promises
    1. Women of faith explode with praise

Every Godly Mother Desires To PROVIDE For Her Children

15        She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls. 16        She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she       plants a vineyard. 17        She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18        She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not            go out at night. 19        In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. 20        She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the             needy. 21        When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22        She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. 23        Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. 24        She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the     merchants with sashes. 25        She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the            days to come. 26        She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her      tongue. 27        She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28        Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also,    and he praises her: 29        "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:15-29

Every Mother Can PREPARE Her Children For The Future By Instilling In Them

Eunice was Timothy’s Mother. She instilled in Timothy several things…

A Love for the Word of God

“And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 3:15

The second way to make an impact in the lives of your children is by instilling within them an authentic faith.

“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5

The third way to impact your children is to instill within them a desire to serve others.

“He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek. The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. Paul wanted to take him along on the journey…” Acts 16:1-3

    Breaking the Sin Cycle

    May 3-4, 2014

    2 Corinthians 10:5

      Romans 7:14-25

Principles From The Word That Will Help You Break That Cycle And Raise The Bar Of Freedom In Your Life

     1.      If I Am Going To Break The Cycle…I Must Realize That Every Action Is Rooted In A Thought

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Romans 8:5-8    For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.'"  Mark 7:21-23

     2.      If I am going to break the cycle…I am going to have to learn how to take unhealthy thoughts captive

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Two Simple Strategies To Capture Unhealthy Thoughts That Lead To Sinful Behavior…

    • Identify them…
    •  Write them down!

How Do We Rob It Of Its Power?

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4     Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" Matthew 4:7   Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" Matthew 4:10

    3.   Once I Have Taken The Thought Captive And Exposed The Lie, I Can      Destroy Its Power With The Word Of God

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11   Jesus said of Satan, “…When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”  John 8:44

    Lies vs Truth

Sin: Pursuit Of Pleasure Lie: “The pleasure is worth the risk”                  Truth: “The wages of sin is death”   Sin: Jealousy Lie: God has shortchanged me…He has withheld blessing…He must love them more Truth: And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times; having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.     2 Corinthians 9:8-9   Sin: Yielding To A Particular Temptation Lie:My temptation is strong and unique, no one else deals with this” Truth: No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.               1 Corinthians 10:13   Sin: Coveting Lie: God is unaware of my needs…or He just doesn’t care…or perhaps He is just selfish Truth: And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19   Sin: Pride, Arrogance Lie: I deserve recognition and honor…people don’t appreciate my gifts Truth: Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 26:12 Truth: He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.        Proverbs 3:34   Sin: Causing Division Lie: I’m just speaking the truth Truth: There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19   Shame* Shame May Not Qualify As Sin, But It Is Certainly A Tool The Enemy Uses. Lie: God could not love me…I am bad…I do not deserve His love Truth: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners (while we were bad), Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 Truth: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

He Will Give You a New Heart

    Ezekiel 36:16-38

    April 26-27, 2014

In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. On the fifth of the month-- it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin-- the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. There the hand of the LORD was upon him. Ezekiel 1:1-3

    Promise of Restoration

"For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.” Ezekiel 36:24   “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36     I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. Ezekiel 36:25   I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26   And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 36:27
    • First He Cleanses You, Then He Gives You A New Heart, Then He Puts His Spirit In You, Then… He Moves You To Follow His Ways
You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God. Ezekiel 36:28   I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you. Ezekiel 36:29   I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine.           Ezekiel 36:30   "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt.          Ezekiel 36:33
    • That Thing That You Thought Was Ruined, That Thing You Thought Could Never Be Restored…Will Be Restored, Resettled, Rebuilt, Brought Back To Life
The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it. 35 They will say, "This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited." Ezekiel 36:34   Then the nations around you that remain will know that I the LORD have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.' Ezekiel 36:36
    • God will do something in your life that others will recognize as a miracle
    • He will bring hope to a hopeless situation in your life…
    • He will bring life out of a dead situation

    The Premise of Restoration

"Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes. Ezekiel 36:22-23   Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. Ezekiel 36:31
    • God wants the pain of our sin to work as a deterrent to future sin
I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign LORD. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, O house of Israel! Ezekiel 36:32
    • This promised restoration is a beautiful picture of God’s mercy, God’s grace, God’s love
The Price of Restoration   "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Once again I will yield to the plea of the house of Israel and do this for them: I will make their people as numerous as sheep Ezekiel 36:37

The Answer is Found at the Cross

    Palm Sunday – 2014

    John 12

The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. John 12:12     People From Every Walk Of Life Respond To The Genuine Love Of Jesus   They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!", "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!", "Blessed is the King of Israel!" John 12:13   Jesus Did Not Come To Deliver Them From The Romans As They Were Hoping. He Came To Deliver Them, And Us, From Something Much Greater  He came to deliver us from sins committed under the first covenant   Hebrews  9:15    He came set us free from the law of sin and death   Romans 8:2-3    He came to deliver us from the curse of the law   Galatians 3:13-14     Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!  Psalm 118:25-26    NKJV   Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,   15 "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt." John 12:14-15   Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah  9:9   Jesus, In His Role As King, Came To Reestablish The Kingdom Of Heaven In The Earth   From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." Matthew 4:17     At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only afterJesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him. John 12:16   It Is Possible To Play A Significant Role In God’s Plan…And Not Even Realize It   Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him. John 12:17-18   We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans  6:4     Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. Colossians  3:1-3     So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!" John 12:19   Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus." 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. John 12:20-22   They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus." John 12:21   “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”           John 12:24 NKJV    “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” John 12:25 NKJV   Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it  Matthew 16:24-25     For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?  For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.  Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.                                  1 Corinthians 1:18-24

Hosting God’s Presence in the Midst of Failure

    April 5-6, 2014

    Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Psalm  51:1

     1.     In The Midst Of His Worst Failure, David Acknowledged God’s Unfailing Love And His Great  Compassion

Turn, O Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.    Psalm 6:4   But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.     Psalm 13:5   Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. Psalm 17:7   For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken. Psalm 21:7   I will be glad and rejoice in your love Psalm 31:7   Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Psalm 36:5   For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39   Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin…7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow…    9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Psalm 51:2, 7, 9

     2.     David Acknowledged That Only A Loving God Could Cleanse Him Of His Sin

Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults.  Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression. Psalm 19:12-13     For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Psalm 25:11     Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake. Psalm  79:9   Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm  103:2-5     For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.  Psalm 51:3-5

     3.     David Acknowledged His Sin And Made No Excuses

I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. Psalm 38:18     Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord" — and you forgave the guilt of my sin.” Psalm 32:5   Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord Acts 3:19     Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place…10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:6, 10

     4.     David Acknowledged That Only God Could Change The Inner Man

But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."                            1 Samuel 16:7   You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:16-17   Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.     Psalm 51:11-12

     5.     Even In The Midst Of His Greatest Failure, David Acknowledged The Connection Between Experiencing Joy And Hosting God’s Presence

You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11     No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me," declares the Lord. Isaiah 54:17

Seven Keys to Hosting His Presence

    March 23, 2014

    1 Chronicles 28:9-10

The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior."  "But sir," Gideon replied, "if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, 'Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the Lord has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian." Judges 6:11-13     "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.  Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a temple as a sanctuary. Be strong and do the work." 1 Chronicles 28:9-10      1.     Acknowledge The God Of Your Father…  2.     Serve Him With Wholehearted Devotion…  3.     Serve Him With A Willing Mind   We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5      4.     For The Lord Searches Every Heart And Understands Every Motive Behind The Thoughts.   “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23   “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”  Luke 6:45   We must also keep constant watch over our motives   All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.  Proverbs 16:2     Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God. 1 Corinthians 4:5    5.     If you seek him, he will be found by you…   O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.      Psalm  63:1   One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his templePsalm  27:4   I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.   Psalm  119:10    6.     Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a temple as a sanctuary   Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel — all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him." 1 Kings 19:18   When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: "Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?"  Esther 4:12-14    7.     Be strong and do the work.   David is aware that building a place for God’s Presence will not be easy

    Hosting God’s Presence Part 2

    March 15-16, 2014

Every Believer Is Meant To Experience God’s Presence   God’s Presence Should Be The Church’s Primary Core Value     Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me,  You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.  If I have found favor in Your eyes, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people." Exodus 33:12-13    The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14   Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.  How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" Exodus 33:15   We Can Experience God’s Presence On Three Levels   A. Omnipresence – God’s Presence is Everywhere   Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.  Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.          Psalm 139:6-8     Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?" declares the LORD. "Do not I fill heaven and earth?" declares the LORD. Jeremiah 23:24     B.  Manifested, Sovereign Presence – God chooses to reveal Himself sovereignly   Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8     So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Genesis 4:16     The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14       C.  Felt-realized, Personal Presence – The Vivid Presence of God   “Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” Psalm 51:1       You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11  (NKJ)   "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…”                       Acts 3:19  (NKJ)   God’s Presence Can Be Cultivated  A.    Through Faith   And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6   B.     Through Desire   As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2    O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. Psalm 63:1-3    Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26   C.    Through actively Seeking Him   "But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.  Deuteronomy 4:29 (NKJ)   From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.  God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. Acts 17:26-27     D.  Through Purity   Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8     Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you. Hosea 10:12
