Hosting God’s Presence Part 2

  Every Believer Is Meant To Experience God’s Presence   God’s Presence Should Be The Church’s Primary Core Value     Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me,  You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.  If I have found favor in Your eyes, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people." Exodus 33:12-13    The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14   Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.  How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" Exodus 33:15   We Can Experience God’s Presence On Three Levels   A. Omnipresence – God’s Presence is Everywhere   Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.  Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.          Psalm 139:6-8     Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?" declares the LORD. "Do not I fill heaven and earth?" declares the LORD. Jeremiah 23:24     B.  Manifested, Sovereign Presence – God chooses to reveal Himself sovereignly   Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8     So Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden. Genesis 4:16     The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14       C.  Felt-realized, Personal Presence – The Vivid Presence of God   “Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” Psalm 51:1       You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11  (NKJ)   "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…”                       Acts 3:19  (NKJ)   God’s Presence Can Be Cultivated  A.    Through Faith   And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6   B.     Through Desire   As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2    O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. Psalm 63:1-3    Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26   C.    Through actively Seeking Him   "But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.  Deuteronomy 4:29 (NKJ)   From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.  God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. Acts 17:26-27     D.  Through Purity   Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8     Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you. Hosea 10:12

        __________________ is a critical key to hosting the Presence of God    1.     If We Are Going To Cultivate An Environment Of Worship, We Will Need To Make It A High _____________    2 Chronicles 29:1-3 2.     If We Are To Restore Meaningful Worship Then We Need To Remove The Things That ___________   Our Temple  2 Chronicles 29:4-5   Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20   But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Colossians 3:8     3.     If We Are To Restore Meaningful Worship, We Need To Be _______________ About The Things That Hinder Our Relationship With God.               2 Chronicles 29: 6-7    4.     If We Are To Restore Meaningful Worship Then We Will Pursue A Fresh Revelation Of What Christ Accomplished On The ______________ 2 Chronicles 29:20-24   But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.  This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.  Romans 3:21-24     5.     If we are to restore meaningful worship, we will need strong ______________________   He stationed the Levites in the temple of the Lord with cymbals, harps and lyres in the way prescribed by David and Gad the king's seer and Nathan the prophet; this was commanded by the Lord through his prophets. 26 So the Levites stood ready with David's instruments, and the priests with their trumpets.         2 Chronicles 29:25-26    6.  If we are to restore meaningful worship then we need to live a life of __________________    2 Chronicles 29:27-31

    Matthew 6:28-33              Matthew 6:9-10            Matthew 11:12   We are called to co-labor with God to advance his Kingdom in the Earth until…  Revelation 11:15 1.      The Promised Land Represents The Kingdom Of God Matthew 11:12        Genesis 1:28    2.      Fear Keeps Us From Reaching Our Full Potential In God   Fear warps our perspective   Fear causes us to focus on the negative “But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large.”   Fear exaggerates the dangers and elevates the enemy "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.”   Fear exaggerates our weakness “We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."   Fear cultivates a sense of hopelessness “That night all the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. 2 All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert!  Numbers 14:1-2     Fear causes us to question God "Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder.   Fear insists that we live in the past "Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt?"   Fear causes us to make irrational and dangerous decisions And they said to each other, "We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt."  3.      Contrary To Popular Belief, Fear Is Not A Spiritual Gift  

     “Do not be afraid.”

      "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.”  Luke 12:32   “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.John 14:27   “Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.” Isaiah 54:4   But now, this is what the Lord says —he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…  Isaiah 43:1-3     How Can We Break Free From The Cycle Of Fear And Begin To Position Ourselves To Enjoy God’s Presence, His Purposes, His Provision, His Promises?   Pursue a greater revelation of God’s love   There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18   Intentionally renew your mind to build your faith   Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17   Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. Philippians 4:8   Surround yourself with people of great faith - Numbers 14:6-9  
    • While fear may cause us to focus on the negative…
    • Faith understands that, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
    • While fear exaggerates the dangers and elevates the enemy…
    • Faith remembers, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
    • While fear may exaggerate our weakness…
    • Faith says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
    • While fear may cultivate a sense of hopelessness…
    • Faith remembers, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.”

    If my people who are called by my name… 1.      We Will Maintain His Presence When We Receive A Fresh Revelation About Who We Are We are His people…called by His name   For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—       Ephesians 1:4-5     1 Corinthians  6:19-20      Romans 8:17      1 Peter 2:9-10     …would humble themselves   2.  We Will Maintain His Presence When We Cultivate A Life Of Humility   For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Romans 12:3     Benefits Associate With Living A Life Of Humility
    • Psalm 25:9   He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
    • Psalm 147:6   The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.
    • Psalm 149:4   For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation.
    • Proverbs  3:34   He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.
    • Proverbs 11:2   When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
    • Proverbs 22:4   Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.
    • Philippians 2:3   Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
    • James 4:10   Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
    • 1 Peter 5:5-7  …All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
      Cultivating a life of humility also makes us look more like Jesus   “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29     …and pray 3.      We Will Maintain His Presence When We Develop The Habit Of Prayer   It is essential to understand that when we pray, we are praying to someone   Communication with God can be developed over time until it becomes as natural as talking to anyone else   Some people establish a specific time and develop a life-long habit   In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3     Psalm 88:13     Mark 1:35      Acts 3:1     …seek My face 4.      If I Am Going To Maintain His Presence, I Will Develop The Habit Of Seeking His Face   I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. Proverbs 8:17     Jeremiah  29:12-13     Isaiah 55:6      Hosea 10:12     David was a life-long seeker of God’s Presence   O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1     Psalm 16:11      Psalm 21:6  

    and turn from their wicked ways

    5.      If I Am Going To Maintain His Presence, Then I Am Going To Intentionally Set My Mind On Things Above   Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2    

    Result Of Practicing These Principles

    Then will I hear from heaven…

      I will forgive their sin…   He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.  Psalm 103:3    

    And I will heal their land…

    Genesis 42

     

      When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, "Why do you just keep looking at each other?" He continued, "I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die." Genesis 42:1-2    1.     The Past Can Leave Us Paralyzed With Fear Or Paralyzed With Guilt   Then ten of Joseph's brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt. But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with the others, because he was afraid that harm might come to him. So Israel's sons were among those who went to buy grain, for the famine was in the land of Canaan also. Genesis 42:3-5   “Your servants were twelve brothers, the sons of one man, who lives in the land of Canaan. The youngest is now with our father, and one is no more." Genesis 42:13  2.     Not Dealing With Our Past Can Rob Us Of Our Future   As they were emptying their sacks, there in each man's sack was his pouch of silver! When they and their father saw the money pouches, they were frightened. Their father Jacob said to them, "You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!" Genesis 42:35-36   Then Reuben said to his father, "You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back." Genesis 42:37   When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes. He went back to his brothers and said, "The boy isn't there! Where can I turn now?" Genesis 37:29-30     But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow." Genesis 42:38   How Do We Deal With The Past?  1.      We have to face the truth  2.      We have to accept the truth 3.      We have to accept grace not guilt  
    • If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9   
     
    • My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.  1 John 2:1-2

      “I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11   Wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. Psalms 130:5   And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.  Psalm 34:7 Happy  is he who  has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope  is in the LORD his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that  is in them; Who keeps truth forever, Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. Psalms 146:5-7   

    Four Key Building Blocks Of Hope

      Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.                 Jeremiah 29:12,13   Your Actions   Therefore, prepare your mind for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1Peter 1:13   Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right.   Proverbs 20:11   A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. Matthew 7:18-20   Prayer   There is power in prayer   After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn’t we drive it out?" He replied,  "This kind can come out only by prayer."       Mark 9:28, 29   How often should we pray?   Pray without ceasing  - 1 Thessalonians 5:17   How should we pray?   Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude.   Colossians 4:2 MSG   Faith   Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.    Hebrews 11:1   For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.        James 2:26  
    • To grow your faith in God you need to NOT:
    • focus on the areas in your life that He promises to take care of
    • fall into the trap of fleshly desires
    • stress about collecting more worldly possessions and wealth
     
    • To grow your faith in God you need TO:
    • be in prayer daily
    • be in God’s word daily
    • live a life of righteousness
      Be Focused On Jesus   "Lord, if it’s you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.  Matthew 14:28-32   I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.              Lamentations 3:19-23

    Genesis 41

     

      In the morning his mind was troubled, so he sent for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him. Genesis 41:8    

    1.     The Answers To Life Are Found In God, Not In The World

      Nightmares happen when we let the world determine our dreams   Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it." Genesis 41:15     "I cannot do it," Joseph replied to Pharaoh…   "but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires." Genesis 41:16  

    2.     Trials can make or break our relationship with God

      "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33     Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  James 1:2-4     The plan seemed good to Pharaoh and to all his officials. 38 So Pharaoh asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?" Genesis 41:37-38  

    3.     Live a life that demands an explanation

      Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. 51 Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, "It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father's household." 52 The second son he named Ephraim and said, "It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering."    Genesis 41:50-52

    Genesis 39

      Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. Genesis 37:3-4     Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it." His brothers said to him, "Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?" And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.        Genesis 37:5-8

      Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?" So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.          1 Peter 4:12-19

    Genesis 22

     

    Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about." Genesis 22:1-2 

      1.   How could God ask such a thing?

             a.       He is God… He can do whatever He wants.                                                                                          b.       He is God… and His ways are beyond my understanding   But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?'"  21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?               Romans 9:20-21     The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge… Proverbs 1:7     The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29     For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,"  declares the Lord. 9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9  

     2.   How could Abraham do such a thing?

    • He knew the promise of God

    • He knew the nature of God

    • He knew the power of God

      Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you." Genesis 22:3-5     By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned." Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. Hebrews 11:17-19      

    Life Lessons We Can Learn From Abraham

     1.      Our Faith Will Be Tested

      In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith — of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire — may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7    During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered… Hebrews 5:7-9  

     2.      We Will Never Be Tested Beyond Our Ability.

      No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13     Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4  

     3.      God Will Test Us, But He Will Never Tempt Us

      When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1:13-15     Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7-8  

     4.      The Right Answer Is Always Obedience

      We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. 1 John 2:3-6     Genesis 22:5-18   "If you love me, you will obey what I command.” John 14:15

    The Call of Abram – Chapter 12

      The Lord had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.”I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." So Abram left, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. Genesis 12:1-5    1.      God Uses Whoever He Wants To Accomplish His Plans   God’s Covenant with Abram – Chapter 15 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward." But Abram said, "O Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir." Then the word of the Lord came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir." He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars — if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. He also said to him, "I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it." Genesis 15:1-7    2.      God’s Promises Often Seem Unrealistic   Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah. Now Sarai was barren; she had no children.        Genesis 11:29-30   3.      Never Attempt To Accomplish God’s Purposes Through Fleshly Means   So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:16-26     God reiterates His promise to make Abram the father of nations (Abraham) Chapter 17 God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her." Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?" And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!" Genesis 17:15-17     The Lord appears to Abraham again and adds a time frame to the promise. Chapter 18 Then the Lord said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son."Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?" Then the Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year and Sarah will have a son." Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh." But he said, "Yes, you did laugh." Genesis 18:10-15   4.      Even People Of Great Faith Occasionally Deal With Doubt.  

    The Promise Fulfilled – Chapter 21

      Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Genesis 21:1-3    5.      When God Makes A Promise, He Will Bring It To Pass   God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?    Numbers 23:19     Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." And she added, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age." Genesis 21:3-7    6.        God Is Preparing To Turn Your Laughter Of Doubt  Into Laughter Of Praise
