Eight Ways That You Can Have A Better Pastor

 1.      Pray For My Protection From The Temptation Of The Devil.  Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.                1 Chronicles 21:1     This command was also evil in the sight of God; so he punished Israel.                   1 Chronicles 21:7 (NIV)   So the LORD sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead. 1 Chronicles 21:14     2.      Pray For My Family.  If The Devil Can’t Get Me, He Will Work On My Family.  Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) 1 Timothy 3:1-5    3.      Pray For My Preaching.  God Has Chosen That The Preaching Of His Word Be A Significant Key To Your Growth.  For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians 1:21    Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel… Ephesians 6:19    Colossians 4:3-4           II Thessalonians 3:1    Matthew 4:17, Mark 1:38, Mark 3:14, 2 Timothy 4:1-2, Colossians 1:25,          1 Corinthians 1:4-6    4.      Pray For My Perception , My Wisdom, And The Ability To Make Right Choices In All Situations.  Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers-- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 1 Peter 5:2-3    For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience… Colossians 1:9-11    5.      Pray That My Passion Would Increase.  Pray That The Lord Would Help Me To Deal With Discouragement, Depression, And Emotional Exhaustion.  Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?  2 Corinthians 11:28-29     2 Corinthians 2:3-4     1 Thessalonians 3:5-8    6.      Pray For Perseverance And Endurance: Physically, Morally, And Spiritually.  I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. 31 Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there, 32 so that by God's will I may come to you with joy and together with you be refreshed. Romans 15:30-32     2 Corinthians 1:8-11     Acts 12:5-7    7.      Pray That My Priorities Would Be Directed By The Holy Spirit.  So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word." Acts 6:2-4      8.      Pray For My Restoration: Spiritual, Physical, Mental, Emotional  He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God's face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state. Job 33:26    I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.         Hebrews 13:19    "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

    Three Choices That Result In Joy

      You Will Have Joy When You Choose To Hear The Good News   But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”  Luke 2:10   I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. Romans 1:16    “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”   James 1:2-3     Your Joy Will Increase When You Choose To Do What God Says   When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."  So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.  Luke 2:15-16   “The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.” Psalm 19:8      “Light shines on the godly, and joy on those who do right”.  Psalm 97:11 NLT   You Will Have Joy When You Choose To Tell Someone Else   But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.  I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”  Luke 2:10   “When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”   Luke 2:17-18   “With joy they should tell what He has done.” Psalm 107:22   “I tell you there is more joy in heaven over one sinner who changes his heart and life, than over ninety-nine good people who don’t need to change.”  Luke 15:7  NCV  Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.”  Psalm 126:5    “Be full of joy in the Lord always.  I will say it again.  Be full of joy!” Philippians 4:4

    Philippians 4:4-8

     1.      Focus More On Christ This Season Than All The Hype    “Rejoice in the Lord always – delight, gladden ourselves in Him: again I say, Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 AMP     Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. Hebrews 3:1     Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2    2.      Focus More On Others Than You Do Yourself   “Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness – your considerateness, your forbearing spirit. The Lord is near…He is coming soon”  Philippians 4:5 AMP   One of the core values of our faith is to focus on others, serve others, honor others…   Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4     Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.                                1 Corinthians 10:24    3.      Focus More On God’s Presence Than On Christmas Presents    “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything…” Philippians 4:6a AMP   It is critical that we take the time to cultivate the Presence of God in our lives 4.      Focus More On Being Thankful For What You Do Have Rather Than Focusing On What You Don’t Have   “in every circumstance and in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving continue to make your wants known to God.”             Philippians 4:6b AMP   Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15     Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2     I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Philippians 4:12     But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 1 Timothy 6:6-8    5.      Focus More On The Peace That God Offers Than On The Satisfaction The World Offers   “And God’s peace which transcends all understanding, shall garrison and mount guard over you hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7   Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: Isaiah 26:3-4     The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29:11     Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”      John 14:27     6.      Focus More On What Is Positive Than On The Negative   “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 NIV   We have the freedom and the privilege to focus on the positive things in our lives…   Let what you say and what you meditate on bring pleasure to the Lord this season   May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

    Law Of Reciprocation

      "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."  Luke 6:37-38 1.   Giving Makes Me More Like God         His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.    2 Peter 1:3-4       Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits — who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm 103:2-5           "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16  2.   Giving Draws Me Closer To God         “Where your treasure is, there your heart is also.”  Matthew 6:21   "You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. 23 Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored…” Deuteronomy 14:22-23 3.   Giving Is The Antidote To Materialism        “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.  Command them to be generous and willing to share.  In this way...they may take hold of the life that is truly Life!”  1 Timothy 6:17-19 4.   Giving Strengthens My Faith            “Bring your whole tithe to My storehouse. Test me in this” says the Lord, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you won’t have room enough for it!”  Malachi 3:10      5.  Giving Is An Investment For Eternity         “...Give happily to those in need, and always be ready to share whatever God has given you.  By doing this, you will be storing up real treasure for yourselves in heaven - it is the only safe investment for eternity!”  1 Timothy 6:18-19 (LB)           "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Matthew 6:19-21   6Giving Opens the Door of God’s Blessing in My Life           “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”  Proverbs 11:25           “Good will come to him who is generous...”  Psalm 112:5           'It is more blessed to give than to receive.’  Acts 20:35           I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:18-19

    1 Cor 16:13-14

      Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14  Be on your guard   Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8   For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.        Ephesians 6:12   How do we maintain an attitude of awareness? Prayer   …pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.   Ephesians 6:18     Stand firm in the faith…   Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  1 Peter 5:8-9   So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. 2 Thessalonians 2:15   Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58   Standing firm includes finishing what you started  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”  2 Timothy 4:7   “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”  John 17:4   NKJV   Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…   Ephesians 6:13  Be men of courage   "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.”  Ezekiel 22:30    Be strong   Strength can be increased over time through resistance training   Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith… 1 Peter 5:8-9   Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you… James 4:7-8   Strength can be increased when we discover its true source   It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.    Psalm 18:32     You armed me with strength for battle; you made my adversaries bow at my feet. Psalm 18:39     The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7    The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Psalm 28:8     Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Psalm 105:4    Do everything in love    I love you, O Lord, my strength. Psalm 18:1

    Asa Hears A Prophetic Word From God

      The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded. 2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you…        7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." 2 Chronicles 15:1-2, 7  

    Creating An Environment For God’s Presence

    In Our Lives And In Our Church

      When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord's temple. 2 Chronicles 15:8

      Therefore speak to them and tell them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face and then goes to a prophet, I the LORD will answer him myself in keeping with his great idolatry. I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols. "Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices! Ezekiel 14:4-6   Idol: A representation or symbol of an object of worship.
    • An object of passionate devotion

     3.     Asa Responded By Repairing The Altar Of The Lord. Vs. 8

              He repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord's temple.2 Chronicles 15:8  

     4.     Asa Offered Sacrifices To The Lord

      At that time they sacrificed to the Lord seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought back. 2 Chronicles 15:11  

     5.     Finally, Asa Responded By Making A Covenant To Seek The Lord

      They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul. 2 Chronicles 15:12   Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile." Jeremiah 29:12-14

    Faith Without Works Is Dead But So Is Our DevotionTo God If We Do Not Act On It

    He Laid Down His Life As A Living Sacrifice To Teach Us How To Live And Then Laid Down His Life On The Cross So That We Had A Chance To Do The Same

    Small Groups Put A Substantial Dent In The Holy Man Myth

      The Pastor has a unique role to play in the body of Christ   To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers — not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.                1 Peter 5:1-3   It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13   The small group can provide opportunities for anyone who wants to use their gifts to serve others
    • prayer, visitation, encouraging, meeting other’s needs, hospitality, follow up
      Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:4-8  

    The Small Groups Put A Substantial Dent In The Holy Place Myth

      There is a real danger of Christians today subconsciously believing that all things spiritual take place at church   Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus.  They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. Greet also the church that meets at their house. Romans 16:3-5   The church is the body of Christ: He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.  Colossians 1:17-18   Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16   It is critical that believers understand that the Presence of God, the purposes of God, and the power of God are not limited to this building!   As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. Mark 1:29-31  

    The Small Group Is The Best Environment For Honesty And Transparency

      We are admonished in scripture to be honest with each other   These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other…          Zechariah 8:16    We are also admonished to confess our sins to each other   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16  

    The Small Group Is The Best Environment To Cultivate Spiritual Disciplines

    • Prayer
    • Regular weekend attendance
    • Serving others
