Loving Ourselves in the Grace of God Part 2

Abiding in Love Part 12

July 13-14, 3013

If I am going to learn to love myself in a way that honors God, I must have a fresh revelation of His love   Ephesians 3:16-19   God’s love is expressed in many ways throughout the New Testament                   1 John 3:1 AMP         1 John 4:15-19        Romans 8:36-39   Knowing Who We Are In Christ Can Help Change Our Perspective   It is critical that we renew our minds with who the Bible says we are rather than believe who our environment says we are   Matthew 4:1-3                       Matthew 4:5-6

So Who Does The Bible Say That We Really Are?

We Are His Church   "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.  19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."  Matthew 16:15-19   We Are His Holy and Royal Priests   You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  1 Peter 2:5   1 Peter 2:9   We Are His Temple   In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.  Ephesians 2:21-22   1 Corinthians 3:16-17     We Are His Family   So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God's holy people. You are members of God's familyEphesians 2:19  NLT   We Are His Body   And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.  Ephesians 1:22-23    1 Corinthians 12:27   We Are His Army   Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs — he wants to please his commanding officer.                      2 Timothy 2:3-4   2 Corinthians 10:3-4   We Are His Sheep   John 10:14-15   “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27   We Are His Ambassadors   …he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.  2 Corinthians 5:19-20   We Are His Bride    Ephesians 5:32  (Phillips)   Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.  Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear."  Revelation 19:7-8   We Are His Branches   "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”  John 15:5-6   We Are His Saints   Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God…To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:1-2   Ephesians 3:16-19 Jude 3

Loving Ourselves in the Grace of God

    Abiding in Love Part 11

    July 6-7, 2013

God (the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) loves us with the same intensity that is expressed in their love for each other John 15:9; 17:23

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. John 15:9

God wants every believer to see and love themselves in light of the truths of Jesus’ work on the cross, of His love and delight for us, and of our value to Him.

“And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”   Matthew 22:39

We are to behold (be aware, consider, look (on), perceive, understand…) the quality of love that the Father has for us.

    1 John. 3:1

He delights in the person that He made us to be in His grace and love.

There is a deep connection between loving God, self, and others.

God created each of us in a unique way as His workmanship.

    Ephesians 2:7-10     2 Corinthians 5:16-17       Romans 8:9

We Need To Learn To See Ourselves Through God’s Eyes

God sees what man calls weak, and anoints it to overcome what appears strong according to the flesh.

God has chosen the [so called] foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and…the [so called] weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. 1 Corinthians 1:27

God sees our physical appearance, abilities, and service very differently from how we see them.

“Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature…for the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”        1 Samuel 16:7

The foundation of loving ourselves in the grace of God is to agree with what God values.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.        Matthew 16:26–27

    Isaiah 53:2–3

Self-hatred comes from seeing our worth and success according to the flesh, and by comparing ourselves to others and evaluating our lives by the values of the world.

They measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12

We must love ourselves in a way that aligns with Scripture.

“If anyone…does not hatehis own life he cannot be My disciple. Luke 14:26

    Matthew 16:24                      2 Timothy 3:1–4

As Christians we are to view ourselves in terms of who we are in Christ, yet acknowledge the sinful desires that results from our sinful nature…

Those who love themselves according to the flesh are preoccupied with themselves…but those who love themselves according to the Spirit are preoccupied with serving God and serving others.

    Philippians 4:11                    1 Timothy 6:8–9                    Philippians 3:3–8

The Word Teaches That We Are Crowned With Glory

The redeemed are crowned with glory and honor in God’s grace.

      Hebrews 2:6-8

The glory of our life in Christ is hidden from our eyes and the eyes of others.

…set your mind on things above …You died, and your life is hidden with Christ…When Christ…appears, then you will appear with Him in glory.      Colossians 3:2-4

He expresses pleasure in us through our many small acts of obedience, including our prayers.

“Well done…you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.” Luke 19:17

    Ephesians 1:17-18

The beauty that Jesus possesses is the very beauty that He gives us…

Meditating on His beauty empowers us to overcome the spirit of heaviness and to love ourselves.

Let the beauty of the Lord…be on us, and establish the work of our hands for us.        Psalm 90:17

    Isaiah 61:3             Luke 15:32

Our greatest emotional need is to have the assurance that we are enjoyed by God even in our weakness.

    Psalm 139:13–18                    Zephaniah 3:17

    Co-Laboring Through Prayer: Part 3

    Abiding in Love Part 10

    June 29-30, 3013

One Of The Ways We Abide In God’s Love

    Is By Co-Laboring In Prayer

How should we approach prayer? Move Beyond Crisis Prayers… Take The Offensive Follow Christ’s example: He prayed often…one of His core values Follow Christ’s Model: The Lord’s Prayer Be persistent:   And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18 Pray together:  They all joined together constantly in prayer  Acts 1:14   "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:19-20

    Pray specifically

    1.         Pray with a clear goal in mind

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4   Now faith is the substance of things  hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1  KJV   He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."     Matthew 17:20   As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by."   He called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"   Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"   Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?"   "Lord, I want to see," he replied.   Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you."   Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God. Luke 18:35-43

     2.         Visualize the end result

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1  KJV   …the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they wereRomans 4:17   Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1  KJV

     3.         Pray fervently to have the substance of what you hope for

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.  Hebrews 11:1  NLT   Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Hebrews 11:1 AMP

     4.         You release the power of faith by verbally confessing what God is in the process of doing

But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are savedRomans 10:8-10   "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”   Mark 11:23-24

Expressing Love to God by Co-laboring with Him

    Abiding in Love Part 9

    June 22-23, 2013

From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.   Matthew 11:12

Advancing God’s Influence In Our Culture

By Telling Our Unique Jesus Story

God Has Given Us The Privilege Of Co-Laboring With Him To Advance His Kingdom And Reach Our World.

We Have A Mandate As Christ Followers To Reach The Lost

We do this by continuing Christ’s mission…
    • “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."    Matthew 28:19-20
One of the ways we do this is by being ready to tell our story…
    • But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…         1 Peter 3:15

We Are Invading The Enemy’s Territory

    •  Satan will do anything he can to keep people from the truth
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.  For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4-6
    •  Or He will convince them that God could not possibly love them after all they have done…
"Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:10-11

The two most powerful weapons we have to destroy the works of the enemy and defeat the accuser of the brothers…

    1. The blood of the Lamb
    2. The word of our testimony

Four things are established with the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony

    1. People experience salvation…
    2. The power of God is demonstrated…
    3. The Kingdom of God is advanced
    4. The authority of Christ is established

Scripture Reveals A Spiritual Strategy To Defeat The Influence Of Satan And To Advance The Kingdom Of God

    •  God has done His part by providing the blood of the Lamb…

    1. Now we have to do our part by telling our story
“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:11

True Obedience Has Always Come With Risk

    • God is more interested in our character and in our obedience than He is in our comfort

    • One of the core values in the life of the believer is that he puts a high value on other people’s needs
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross! Philippians 2:3-8     "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35     Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…1 Peter 3:15

Expressing Love Back to God in Prayer

    Abiding in Love Part 8

Praying In A Way That Expresses Love Back To God?

    Follow ______________________

v  Lord’s Prayer - Matthew 6:9-13   Matthew 6:9  "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven…   How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  1 John 3:1-2   Romans 8:15-17   …hallowed be your name,   Matthew 6:10   …your kingdom come,   "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever." Revelation 11:15   Matthew 6:10   …your will be done   "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." Luke 22:42   Matthew 6:10   …on earth as it is in heaven.   Matthew 6:11  Give us today our daily bread.   Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Proverbs 30:8 Matthew 6:12   Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.   “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15   Mathew 6:13   “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

    Be _____________     - Example: Daniel

Pray ___________ - Example: Praying for Peter’s release from prison

When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, "Peter is at the door!" Acts 12:12-14   Acts 1:14               Acts 2:42               Matthew 18:19-20              Acts 3:1

    Pray ___________________

    Loving God Back

    Abiding in Love: Part 7

    June 1-2, 2013

Co-Laboring With God In The Area Of Prayer

Why Do So Many Believers Find It So Difficult To Pray?

A distorted view of the sovereignty of God

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”  Luke 10:19   When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him."Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him." "O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me."  Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment. Matthew 17:14-18

We fail to see prayer as warfare

Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Ephesians 6:11-12

    Why Should We Pray?

It is the tool we have been given to invite the Kingdom of Heaven to invade the kingdom of darkness

See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."  Deuteronomy 1:21

Prayer is the primary weapon we use to harass and disrupt the forces of darkness in the world

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  2 Corinthians 10:3-5   The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16

We pray because Christ set an example for us to do so

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.  Mark 1:35   Luke 5:15-16       Luke 6:12-13

    How Should We Approach Prayer?

Move beyond crisis prayers…take the offensive   From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.  Matthew 11:12

Take the field with confidence and boldness

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.  Ephesians 3:12     Luke 10:19           Romans 8:37        Proverbs 28:1

Remember you are on the enemy’s turf

We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one1 John 5:19   Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News…                     2 Corinthians 4:4 NLT   You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.  Ephesians 2:2  NLT

    Put on protective gear…

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.  Ephesians 6:13-18

    Loving God Back

    Abiding in Love: Part 6

    May 25-26, 2013

Obedience Is One Of The Best Environments To Express Our Love Back To God…And One Of The Best Environments To Perceive His Love For Us

If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love… John 15:10a   Just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. John 15:10b

One Of The Ways We Can Express Love Back To God Is By Producing Fruit

    •  Fruit identifies the source from which it comes: Fruit of the Spirit
This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:8   You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that will last. John 15:16
    •  Fruit carries the seed of reproduction: Great Commission
    •  There will be a direct correlation between lasting fruit and intimacy with Jesus
“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”  John 15:4-5
    •  We need to make it our mission to abide in Christ.

Another Way Of Expressing Our Love To God Is To Walk In Obedience To His Purpose For Our Life…

    Purposes Of God

    Seek And Save The Lost.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." Luke 19:10   “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."  Matthew 20:28   But he said, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent."  Luke 4:43   "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17

We Are Called To Partner With Christ In This Mission…

"Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."  John 20:21   Matthew 28:18-20              Ephesians 4:11-13  NLT

We Are All Called To Be Priests

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father — to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. Revelation 1:5-6   …you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood…  1 Peter 2:5   But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

The Holy Spirit Will Use Anyone Who Is Willing To Tell Their Story

    • The woman at the well…
Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?"  30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.  John 4:28-30   Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I ever did."    John 4:39
    • The demon possessed man: chains, tombs, Legion, pigs,
As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you."  So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.                     Mark 5:18-20

The Bible Has A Sense Of Urgency In Regards To Reaching The Lost

As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. John 9:4-5   I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2   Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:5-6

5 Expressions Of The Love Of God

    1. God’s love for God
    2. God’s love for His people
    3. Our love for God
    4. Our love for ourselves
    5. Our love for others
“'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'  This is the first and greatest commandment.”      Matthew 22:37-38

One of the primary expressions of Love from the Son to the Father was obedience

“…the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.”  John 14:31   “You are my friends if you do what I command.”  John 15:14

Ways To Cultivate An Environment Of Obedience

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”  John 15:1-4   One of the ways we express wholehearted love is by being fruitful   We are called by Christ to bear fruit.        John 15:16   Being fruitful pleases God.            Colossians 1:10   Jesus reserved His severest judgment for the unfruitful.  Matthew 21:19   "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.John 15:1

A Picture Of Co-Laboring Between The Father And The Son

One of the expressions of love between the Father and the Son is partnership, co-laboring, interdependence  -  John 5:19

The Father, The Son, And The Holy Spirit Are Extremely Concerned About Fruit In Our Lives… And Are Active In The Process

      John 15:2              Matthew 21:43

Fruitfulness Is Critical In The Economy Of The Kingdom

The Father Continually Prunes Those Who Bear Even A Small Amount Of Fruit… So That They Will Be More Fruitful Still

Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit. John 15:2 AMP

He wants to identify and remove anything in your life that threatens your fruitfulness.

The fruit Jesus is talking about represents measurable evidence of the born again experience

    • Fruit identifies what kind of tree it comes from
      Galatians 5:22-23               John 13:34-35          Matthew 7:15-20
    • Fruit also contains the seeds for reproduction
Matthew 28:19-20   You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. John 15:3

Jesus Makes A Distinction Between Salvation And Fruit

Jesus Makes This Perfectly Clear In The Great Commission

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."   Matthew 28:18-20
    • The call to make disciples goes much deeper... it means to teach them about the gospel of the Kingdom
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:14   The Gospel Or Good News Of The Kingdom Includes The Interaction Of The King And His People: Particularly His Wholehearted Love For Us

Salvation Is The Critical First Step To Participating In The Kingdom Of God… To Advancing God’s Purposes And Plans In The Earth

      John 3:3                John 15:4

Jesus Is The Source Of All Spiritual Fruit.

    A MOTHER’S LOVE

    May 11 & 12, 2013

    Facets Of A Mother’s Love

    • A mother’s love is a sacrificial love
    • A mother’s love is a protective love
    • A mother’s love is a nurturing love
God’s love is also protective, nurturing and sacrificial, because we love through him.    “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female he created them.”  Genesis 1:27   We were created to love as God loves us!

    A MOTHER’S LOVE IS A SACRIFICIAL LOVE

    A Wise Ruling

16 Now two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. 17 One of them said, “Pardon me, my lord. This woman and I live in the same house, and I had a baby while she was there with me. 18 The third day after my child was born, this woman also had a baby. We were alone; there was no one in the house but the two of us. 19 “During the night this woman’s son died because she lay on him. 20 So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep. She put him by her breast and put her dead son by my breast. 21 The next morning, I got up to nurse my son—and he was dead! But when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn’t the son I had borne.”22 The other woman said, “No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours.” But the first one insisted, “No! The dead one is yours; the living one is mine.” And so they argued before the king. 23 The king said, “This one says, ‘My son is alive and your son is dead,’ while that one says, ‘No! Your son is dead and mine is alive.’” 24 Then the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So they brought a sword for the king. 25 He then gave an order: “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.”26 The woman whose son was alive was deeply moved out of love for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!” But the other said, “Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!” 27 Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother.” 28 When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.                    1 Kings 3:16 – 28

    GOD’S SACRIFICIAL LOVE

“Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals.  You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. AND I WILL PUT ENMITY BETWEEN YOU AND THE WOMAN, AND BETWEEN YOUR OFFSPRING AND HERS; HE WILL CRUSH YOUR HEAD, AND YOU WILL STRIKE HIS HEEL.” Genesis 3:14

     A MOTHER’S LOVE IS A PROTECTIVE LOVE

JOCHEBED - was the mother of Moses. Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son.  When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.  But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch.  Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. Exodus 2:1

    GOD’S PROTECTIVE LOVE

In my distress I screamed to the Lord for his help……But the Lord held me steady.  He led me to a place of safety, for HE DELIGHTS IN ME. Psalm 18:6-19

    A MOTHER’S LOVE IS A NURTURING LOVE

    • Samuel’s mom, Hannah.  1 Samuel 1:1-19

    GOD’S NURTURING LOVE

Jesus says, “O Jerusalem, O Jerusalem, how I long to gather you as a hen gathers her chicks, but you would not let me.”  Matthew 23:37

    Abiding in Love: Part 4

    May 4-5, 2013

    Pastor Rulon Combs

What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: Psalm 8:4-6     But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, Ephesians 2:4-6

“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne…”      Revelation 3:21

To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests…  Revelation 1:5-6  NKJV

Quality Of Love That We Are To Cultivate For God

God wants us to love him with the same passion that He loves us

Jesus replied: “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'  38 This is the first and greatest commandment.”Matthew 22:37-38

He wants us to respond to Him with the same wholehearted love that He has for us.

And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:5   We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19-20

Love God with all your heart… kardia: the center and seat of spiritual life

    With all your soul…psuche: breath

“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?”  Matthew 16:26     The soul experiences a variety of emotions   Jesus said "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," Mark 14:34    And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord…" Luke 1:46     “I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. “Isaiah 61:10

With all your mind - dianoia:  deep thought, the faculty, imagination, understanding.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

With all your strength…ischus:  ability, force, strength, power, might ability, might ([-ily]), power, strength.

We Are To Love God Wholeheartedly

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?       Psalm 42:1-2   Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:25-26   O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.     Psalm 63:1-3   My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you…          Isaiah 26:9

    Complete Obedience

“…the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.”  John 14:31    “If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love.” John 15:10

What Does Practical Obedience Looks Like?

I express wholehearted love when I put the highest priority on His Kingdom

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Matthew 6:33

I express wholehearted love to God when I demonstrate Godly love to others

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34   "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.”  John 15:9   “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."         John 13:35
